About me

Hello, and thank you for visiting my site. I am Filip Blaauw, hobby wildlife photographer from Norway. More specifically from Ålgård in Gjesdal, in the south west part of the country.
After photographing for many years, also when working as a journalist, I had a break from photography for some time - before I got the passion for wildlife photography the recent years.
On this page you can see some of my photographs and read my blog posts about my projects. I would also appreciate if you would have a look on my Instagram account, Facebook page or my Youtube channel.
Any questions or requests? Please ship me an e-mail or fill out the form at the bottom of this page.
I am a Buteo Photo Gear ambassador, please check out their website at https://www.buteophotogear.com or https://www.stealth-gear.com
I am a Nikon NPS member

Local wildlife

I mostly photograph birds and animals in my local area, and find it extra meaningful to appreciate the wildlife in our own back yard. I am lucky to live at a place with short distances to the mountains, woods, beaches and many other suitable habitats for an array of wildlife. But I also enjoy visiting other places, either in Norway or abroad.

In my camera bag

I am a Nikon shooter, and my interest for photography started with a Nikon film camera that I borrowed from my father. After a while I got my own gear, and started shooting on film. When working as a journalist I switched to Canon for a while, before trying the Panasonic and the micro four thirds system. That certainly had its benefits in weight and cost, but I am glad I am back with Nikon full frame cameras again.
My working horse lens is without a doubt the Nikkor Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S, with its built-in teleconverter. I use this both on my Z9 and Z8, and I simply love this lens. In my bag there is also the Nikkor Z 180-600mm f5.6-6.3, the Nikkor Z 14-30mm f4 wide angle lens as well as the Nikkor Z MC 105mm f2.8 macro lens.
See the complete list on my Gear page.

Pictures on the wall?

Websites and social media does not do justice to all the details that often are present in pictures of wildlife. I really enjoy printing out my best images and mount them on my wall. At the very least I then got a physical product after my efforts in getting the shot. And with a nice frame, they look better on the wall in the livingroom than the wall on a social media site. If you would like to order some of my images, please get in touch and I will assist you!
Please enjoy your stay on my site, and in nature.
